GPS Relay sends your iPhone's GPS position to your iPad over Bluetooth, so a Wi‑Fi‑only iPad can show your position in ForeFlight, Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro, or any flight app that accepts a GDL 90 GPS device. No hotspot, no cables, no extra box.
What do I need?
An iPhone (the GPS source) and an iPad, both with GPS Relay installed and
Bluetooth on. The iPhone does not need a SIM or a data connection.
Does it work in airplane mode?
Yes. Airplane mode is optional — GPS Relay only needs Bluetooth. If airplane
mode switches Bluetooth off, turn it back on in Control Center (iOS remembers
that next time).
Where should the iPhone be?
Right at a window, where it can see the sky. The airplane's skin blocks GPS:
in our flight tests the iPhone had a usable position 96% of the time at a
window, and almost never in cruise away from one. If GPS is weak or lost,
both screens tell you and the iPad sends you a notification.
How do I set up ForeFlight?
Nothing to set up. Keep ForeFlight on screen; under More › Devices
it lists GPS Relay as connected while GPS is coming in.
How do I set up Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro?
In the iPad Settings app: Apps › FD Pro › AID/ADS-B Provider ›
GDL90 Compatible Device, Enable ON, Network Port 4000.
In FD Pro, tap the GPS (satellite) icon: Source shows GDL90 Compatible.
Other flight apps?
Add a GDL 90 device on UDP port 4000 in your app. GPS Relay feeds
it on the iPad itself (127.0.0.1); nothing goes over a network.
The codes don't match.
On the iPad, open CODE CHECK and tap Pair with your iPhone's code,
or use Details & help › Forget this iPhone.
How does the free trial work?
The first 2 hours of relay time are free, counted only while your iPad
actually receives GPS. After that, unlock GPS Relay once on the iPhone — no
subscription. The iPad side is always free. On a new iPhone use
Details & help › Purchase › Restore Purchase. A flight that is
already running is never cut off.
Battery?
Plan for roughly 10% per hour on the iPhone. A charger is a good idea on long
flights; both devices warn you when the battery runs low.
Can I navigate with it?
No. GPS Relay is for situational awareness only. It is not certified and must
not be used as a primary means of navigation. Follow your operator's
procedures for portable electronic devices.
